Friday May 17-Angie Miller will be making her exclusive Frederick appearance at The Cellar Door.  Her show starts at 10 p.m.

     You may have seen acoustic Rock artist Angie Miller performing her original music at clubs, coffeehouses, festivals, and colleges throughout the mid-Atlantic region where she has carved out her reputation as a great performer and songwriter who knows “how to capture an audience,” as washington post.com reviewer Maria Villafana says. Her debut CD, Ricochet, was released by Big Mo Records in 1996, featuring a cameo appearance by guitar legend Danny Gatton. Since then, she has produced two more independent releases and appeared on several compilation CDs. White Space (2001) is an all-acoustic recording that is organic and moving with sparse arrangements and introspective lyrics.  Her latest release, Play (2003) is an exceptional live recording featuring a top-notch band that showcases Angie’s great songwriting, smart lyrics, beautiful melodies and strong pop hooks. She is currently working on a new studio recording, due out later this year.

     Following in the footsteps of Americana songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, Angie mixes a smart pop style into modern folk rock tunes and introspective ballads that hook the listener into the story being told in each song. As Waazzup Magazine says, “Her music, which is both playful and thoughtful, mixes folk ballads and sultry standards, and alternative acoustic pop.” Angie’s music cuts straight to the heart and comfortably slides up next to your own experiences and memories like a good conversation.

Sunday May 19- The Comedy Escapades featuring Tommy Sinbazo.  Show starts at  7 p.m.  We love our comedy Sundays in The Cellar.  Key City Comedy members Tok Moffatt, Alexx Starr and Patrick Withrow approached The Cellar Door management about doing a comedy open mic.  Management listened to the gentlemen and say make a business plan and then come back to see me.  Said management thought they would never see the young comedians again.  Management was wrong.  Not only did the comedians fire back with a business plan they began stalking management until she said YES!!!  Thus a show was born.  This week  Key City is bringing in comedians from Maryland,Virginia and D.C.  the audience gets to choose who they think is funniest and then that comedian will have a Q. and A.  at the end of the show.  This week’s headlining act is Tommy Sinbazo.

Mixing a quick wit honed through years of Improv Comedy experience, raw honesty, and his own, odd outlook on life, Tommy Sinbazo has kept audiences laughing for over 12 years. You’ll never know what Tommy’s going to say next– mostly because he doesn’t either. His high energy, often off the cuff act touches on topics ranging from relationships and childhood, to masturbation and crafting.

Over the years, Tommy has been selected to perform at The Laughing Devil Festival in New York and The Laughing Skull Comedy Festival in Atlanta GA and has worked with many great comics including Brian Posehn, Kevin Meaney, and Tom Simmons. His good friend Stavros had to edit this bio so that the bookers visiting this site were tricked into thinking Tommy has a basic grasp of the English language.

This Thursday May 9, 2013 Sundog Ritual will be making their Cellar Door debut!!  These gentlemen have had years in the rock and roll business and have put together this brand new show that is sure to please.  Be prepared to dance and tap your feet to the acoustic rock beat of Sundog Ritual.  The show begins around 9 p.m.  Thursday night also happens to be The Cellar’s Thirsty Thursday and Ladies Night!!  We have $3.00 Coronas,corona lights, koko Browns,and margaritas for all.  There are $5.00 cosmos,angini martinis and wine for the ladies!!!  Can’t wait to see you here!!

THE SECOND HAND RAMBLERS

Friday May 10, 2013 The Second Hand Ramblers return to the Door.  A Cellar favorite the Second Hand Ramblers always please with their Americana rock style.  The boys themselves describe their music as music your parents would approve of…….mostly.  According to the bio on the Ramblers facebook page the Ramblers came from different music scenes and met each other through impromptu music jams and other late night debauchery!!  Thus a band was born!!  The Second Hand Ramblers have were filmed at The cellar Door for two episodes of Rick Dash Presents  a popular podcast about the happening Maryland,D.C. and Virginia music scene which The Ramblers are very much a part of.  Definitely a blast and get here early to grab a seat!!  The show starts at 10 p.m.

MIKE WESTCOTT TRIO

Saturday May 11, 2013  The Mike Westcott Trio brings its classic rock and roll style to The cellar.  Mike,a child of working musicians, grew up in and around Rockville,MD.  He was inspired at a young age by his parents’ passion for music and spent countless hours spinning their records (LPs and 45s).  He listened to rock,soul,country and jazz and everything in between.  He also began playing instruments and with his mother’s encouragement kept progressing in music.  It ultimately was the guitar that stole his heart with its dynamic and expressive voice from soft and sweet to nasty and raw.  Mike learned to spin his guitar chops into fresh solidly written songs that are tucked amongst rock classics.  Its always a treat to have Mike visit us and he is sure to mesmerize you and take you back to a time that you get lost in the music.  Show starts at 10 p.m.

MATT WIGLER

Matt Wigler makes his Cellar debut on Sunday May 12, 2013.  There is no better treat for the mom that is a jazz enthusiast or if you just love jazz come on out and see Matt perform from 6-9.   Matt is a pianist,organist,singer and composer from Baltimore,MD.  Born in 1994 he has already performed at notable venues that include The Kennedy Center,Strathmore Music Center and Blues Alley.  Matt studied at The Manhatten School of Music in New York City.  In 2010 he was selected as an Artist in residence at Strathmore which is a reknowned music center in the Washington D.C. area.

Matt recorded “Epiphony” which was released in July of 2009 and was nominated for best jazz CD by the Washington Area Music Association.  He has also played piano and Hammond B3 organ on various other studio projects such as Deanna Bogart’s “Eleventh Hour” and Rick Dempsey’s “Home Run Holiday”.

Matt has performed at many notable highend jazz festivals throughout the United States and Canada.  We are absolutely honored that we are going to have such a great night of music in The Cellar with such a young and up and coming prestigious jazz musician.

TED GARBER

Ushering in a new golden age of live entertainment is Ted Garber, a genre-bending multi-instrumentalist whose “BluesAmericanaRock” combines classic showmanship with a captivating singer-songwriter sensibility. His smokey, bluesy vocals, howling harmonica riffs and screaming guitar licks are enticing audiences wordwide, taking us on a diverse musical journey from the Big Apple to the Big Easy, hovering in the Mississippi Delta before heading South of the Border.

Ask Ted about his musical influences, and four passions shine through- the iconic time-honored entertainers such as Elvis and Springsteen, his late folk-rock musician father, the rhythm and blues scene of New Orleans, and insatiable globe-trotting. His thirst for new experiences has led him to more than 30 countries on five continents. Whether it’s a dingy shantytown motel room in Tanzania, a Brazilian beach hut jam session, a single-mom waiting tables at Denny’s, or the smiling shoe-shining oracle on a New Orleans street corner, Garber’s walking, hitching, gigging, chicken-and-goat-bus-cultural-immersion is what steers his musical odyssey.

Ted kicked off his career performing covers on the streets of New Orleans for tips, where he balanced academic studies at Tulane University with his passion for playing. Inspired by the vibrancy of the city and realizing his natural ability to connect with a crowd, he honed his talent for original material. Ted went on to open for the likes of Pat McGee and has performed in venues as diverse as DC’s legendary 9:30 Club, Blues Alley, and the Strathmore, LA’s The Viper Room, and Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe. He is a two time winner of the WAMA Pop/Rock Recording of the Year for his albums “Live At  Strathmore” (2011) and “American Rail” (2010), was named DC’s Top Entertainer by WUSA-Channel 9, and won On Tap Magazine’s Battle of the Bands “Taste of Arlington” Competition in 2006.

A highlight in Ted’s career was becoming an “Artist In Residence” (AIR) at the prestigious Strathmore Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC. The program offers six local artists, out of hundreds of applicants, access to an artist development fellowship program. Ted continued to hone his talent, selling out three consecutive concerts at the Mansion in early 2011. Two of these public concerts were recorded, and transformed into his highly successful 2011 album “Live at Strathmore”.

SOUL-GRIN

Soul-Grin is a brand new motown funk band that is made up of veteran musicians.  Between all of them there is over 75 years of musical experience and it shows.  The band is led by a female vocalist who also plays some mean congas.  Backing her on vocals are her brother on bass and a lead guitarist as well as the saxophone player and drummer.  They really showed what they were made of last time they were at The cellar playing everything from James Brown and Aretha Franklin to Martha reeves and the Vandellas and Stevie Wonder.    They have promised to keep the show lively and uptempo learning songs that I know Cellar patrons like to get down to!!  This is definitely a must see show!!

We have been hard at work making changes to our menu. After many tastings, “heated discussions”, do overs and shocking twists we are finally done!  We have kept a lot of the Cellar favorites and made some changes to others.  Our “build your own burger or chicken breast” allows you to order a sandwich exactly how you want it without having to deconstruct or modify an existing menu item.  We tried to add some healthy,vegetarian and gluten free alternatives.  We also have added some new side dish options.  The Cellar mac and cheese was a particular source of contention but we came up with one that satisfied all of our picky palates.  Another wonderful new side is our delicious ratatouille.  For dessert the creme brulee stayed and the Cellar beignets made a comeback this time with a choice of chocolate sauce or fresh berry compote.  Coming soon will be our new happy hour snack menu and comfort lunch.

Ihara and his former group Welbilt toured the U.S. extensively from 2002-2006 with Lifehouse, Maroon 5, Live, Pete Yorn, and various other bands and artists. After the split from the group in 2007 he released his first single “If You Want To” written with producer and long time friend Todd Wright. (The song would later be re-released with a new project.)

In 2008 he toured playing bass with the now Nashville based group The Blackjacks until 2010 playing with Billy Idol, Foreigner, Chevelle, Staind, and numerous other local and national rock acts.

Later that year he was offered a supporting slot for Memphis, TN band Ingram Hill. Three weeks before the show he formed his current project We Were Kings and debuted the band to a sold out crowd. A month later they entered the studio with friend and producer Mark Williams. Shortly thereafter they released their critically acclaimed debut album “Ghost” in 2011.

Friday night April 26- Mile 60 will be hitting the stage.  This is a local trio from New Market Maryland.  It will be their first time playing in The cellar and we are very excited!! Comprised of Joe Zarnick on guitar and vocals, Preston Wood on bass guitar and vocals and Joe Roberts on keyboard,vocals and programming they play everything from Credence Clearwater Revival to Coldplay!!  Their name was chosen as a reference to the mile marker on Route 70 very close to their homes.  Come out and support great local music!!  The show starts at 10 p.m.

Saturday Night April 27- Denny grizzle Duo.  Denny is a Cellar Door favorite. “Denny Grizzle, a native West Virginian, has lived in Frederick, MD for most of his life. His engaging style is not like anything else around. When you see Denny’s show, it is not just a collection of some great original and cover songs being played, but an experience on several levels. Denny incorporates many facets of his background into his performances including music, comedy, improv, and even some magic and acting out characters tossed in on occasion. Denny’s impetus is solely about the connection with you. The reward for him is to see you being entertained.” The show starts at 10 p.m.

Sunday Evening April 28- Shawn Dennison,Tim Jenkins and special guest Audrey Bernstein-  Folks this is jazz at its finest.  This show is a definite must see and showcases some of the best Frederick area jazz musicians (Dennison and Jenkins)  Audrey grew up in Frederick and has an extensive background in the performing arts before taking up jazz.  Her sultry voice will transport you to eras past.  Show is from 6-9.
